High Point University · Personally for you

Clayton, the version of college we’d build for you.

A short read on where your major, your three sports, and the way you make friends all already have a home at High Point.

A note before you start

Clayton, the form your counselor filled out had your name, a feel for what kind of business you’d like to do, three high-school sports, and a sentence about how much you like meeting people. What follows isn’t a brochure. It’s an honest look at where each of those things lives at High Point University — what you’d actually be doing here on a Tuesday in October, who you’d be doing it with, and what it adds up to four years from now.

Chapter 02 · Your Major

Business Analytics & Economics is closer to a craft than a curriculum.

You like technology, and you like people, and most majors will eventually make you pick one. The Phillips School of Business runs Business Analytics & Economics as the place where that doesn’t happen — you take real data sets into the Tilley Trading Room (the same Bloomberg-terminal-lined space the finance majors use) and your coursework comes with Gartner IT Research access, which is the kind of subscription companies pay for. The program is small enough that your professors will know what you’re working on by your sophomore year.

Chapter 03 · Where your athletic life continues

Three seasons. Three teams already shaped like the one you came from.

Flag football — you keep the Saturday.

Flag football at HPU is club-sport real — [verify: men’s flag football active in HPU’s club/intramural program] — Tuesday-night league, fall semester, teams self-organize before week two. You’d find the same kind of person you’ve been lining up with on Friday nights: the ones who treat a pickup game like the real one.

Baseball — you keep the long season.

Baseball at HPU lives [verify: HPU’s club baseball or intramural softball program details — name, season]. Spring season opens in February. You don’t have to walk away from the long-season rhythm; you just bring it inside the diamond at the rec field instead of varsity.

Ice hockey — you keep the line.

Hockey at HPU is the club sport that asks for the kind of player your last contact sport asked you to be. The men’s program runs at two competitive levels — Purple (D2) and White (D3)[verify: practice cadence and tryout window]. If you’ve never skated competitively, the D3 side is the on-ramp; if you have, Purple’s where you go. Either way, it’s the team you’d recognize.

Chapter 04 · Where you’ll find your people

Four rooms on campus already shaped around the way you make friends.

Chapter 05 · Where this leads

Four years, in the order you’ll live them.

  1. Freshman

Your foundation business core runs alongside your first analytics courses. Your counselor checks in twice this year.

  2. Sophomore

You declare your concentration. The Tilley Trading Room becomes a place you spend real hours, not just visit. First internship cycle opens.

  3. Junior

Internship semester. [verify: HPU’s Business Analytics internship model — required? credit-bearing? typical placements]

  4. Senior

Capstone project. [verify: format — team-based? client-facing? thesis?]

  5. After

A small thing

You didn’t ask us about this.

One thing your counselor noticed in what you wrote: you talked about being outside as much as being on a field. HPU Outdoor Discovery runs trips most weekends that don’t require any experience — most of the people on them haven’t done it before either. The way you make friends and the way these trips are designed are the same way.
